Which electric guitar is right for you?
Most people are familiar with the age old advice about conversations with friends, “don’t talk about religion or politics if you want to keep your friends.” We would probably be well advised to add guitars to this advice, especially if the conversation drifts toward “The best electric guitar is….”
Not long ago a good friend took a trip to the library to finalize some research for an end of the semester exam. Once he completed some warm up research on centerfold staple placement, he journeyed to the music section where the real work on his assignment could begin. The focus was to determine, by application of established research protocols, which electric guitar could be considered the best instrument of them all.
Young Sherlock soon learned this was to be the most formidable research project of his life. And for an unexpected reason that had nothing to do with electric guitar tone or style or any of the items that would easily register.
After nearly four hours of finger numbing searches, including Googling more than 15000 files of text, graphics and a ton of back issues of Rolling Stone, he gained a better understanding of electric guitars and how they rank.
Here’s a synopsis of the findings and an introduction to some great electric guitar masterpieces.
- Fender, especially the Fender American Deluxe HSS Stratocaster, is generally mentioned as being the best electric guitar of all times. The consensus is almost reverently about many of the electric guitars that make the grade.
- The Godin LGX-SA AS, an electric acoustic guitar, is considered a number one place holder in the field of electric acoustic guitars.
- The Fender Deluxe Hss Strat also ranks well in the electric acoustic guitar genre. The Godin Multiac Spectrum SA Cutaway is reportedly in a rank sharing position with the Fender, at least in regard to electric acoustic guitars.
- Continuing with another group of guitars, referred to as budget guitars, the choices seem robust. When you want the very best guitar at the lowest price, you will want to take a close look at the Ibanez GRG170DX. This electric guitar has great features for the price, with a two octave neck for incredibly wide harmonic range. The 2-point floating trem bridge gives dive bomb performance that is a real contender over other more pricey guitars currently on the market.
- The Squier Affinity Series Telecaster Special Butterscotch Blonde is a feature filled model that provides playability and tone that is rare in the affordable price range for electric guitars currently on the market.
No electric guitar review would be complete without the mention of the well known Yamaha brand. This venerable company is known for high quality and produces a huge line up of styles in electric guitars. There are plenty of styles ranging from copies of popular models that are crowd favorites, to warm and classical designs that customers prefer. Yamaha has enjoyed a reputation of being the most popular guitar chosen by music industry superstars.
Gibson guitars have been around since the 1890s making them one of the oldest companies still in the electric guitar making business. Gibson guitars fit lots of player’s styles from acoustic to jazz and folk. Their world famous Les Paul electric guitar is a benchmark for quality, style and exemplifies what great music stands for in the world of electric guitar fans everywhere.
So, whatever your budget, there’s a guitar to suit! What are you waiting for???
